■ 세미나 개요

대상들은 (대개) 부분들로 구성되어 있고 시간을 통해 지속한다. 그래서 대상의 구성과 대상의 지속에 대한 철학적 탐구는 대상의 본성을 이해하는 데에 주요한 두 요소이다. 본 세미나에서는 이 두 중심 주제에 대해 분석적 전통의 현대 형이상학에서 논의되고 있는 주요 견해들과 쟁점들을 다룰 것이다. 우선, 우리는 세미나의 전반부에서 대상의 구성에 대해 논의할 것이다. 어떤 조건 하에서 대상의 구성이 성립하는가? 부분들이 한 대상을 구성할 때, 그 대상과 그것의 부분들 사이의 관계의 본성은 무엇인가? 우리는 이 두 질문을 우리의 주요한 철학적 관심으로 삼고서, 구성과 관련한 여러 논의들을 토론할 것이다. 세미나의 후반부의 중심 주제는 대상의 지속이다. 한 대상이 시간을 통해 (예를 들어, 어제부터 오늘까지) 지속한다고 할 때, 어제의 그 대상과 오늘의 그 대상 사이의 관계는 어떻게 이해되어야 하는가? 우리는 지속에 대한 현대의 여러 이론들을 검토하고 그 이론들이 이 질문에 대해 만족스런 답변을 제시하는지 비판적으로 검토할 것이다. 구성과 지속에 대한 일차적 논의 후에, 세미나의 말미에 우리는 이러한 형이상학적 논의가 정말 유의미하게 이뤄질 수 있는지에 대한 방법론적인 고찰을 최근 부활하고 있는 메타-존재론적인 논의를 통해 간단히 살펴 볼 것이다.
