- 밀턴 프리트먼의 주장: 모형은 모형의 결과의 correctness로 판단되어야지 가정의 correctness로 판단되어서는 안 된다.

- 밀턴 프리트먼에 대한 카트라이트의 반박: 대부분의 유용한 모형은 (i) 독립적인 수단들에 의해 우리가 legitimate할 수 있는 것이고 (ii) 새로운 문제들에 대해 예측할 수 있는 것이다. 이는 미리 알 수 없다.
