■ 수업 목표

본 과목에서는 후견주의의 본성과 정당성, 즉 후견주의란 무엇이며 언제 후견적 개입이 정당한가에 대해 연구한다. 구체적으로 다음과 같은 문제들이 다루어질 것이다: 밀의 반(反)후견주의, 개인 자율(personal autonomy)의 본성과 가치, 연성 후견주의(soft paternalism), 자기주권(self-sovereignty)과 후견주의, 자유주의적 후견주의(libertarian paternalism)와 조종(manipulation), 형벌과 후견주의, 후견주의와 공공정책.

■ 교재 및 참고 문헌

학기 초에 아래 강의일정에 표기된 필수 문헌의 대부분을 모아 묶은 강의자료집을 조교로부터 구입할 수 있을 것이다. 참고문헌은 pdf 파일로 eTL 강의 게시판에 업로드되거나, 수업 중 복사물로 배부될 것이다.

■ 평가 방법

본 과목의 성적은 다음과 같은 방식으로 평가한다.

(1) 수업참여 및 논평문 (30%)

(2) 발표과제 (30%)

(3) 기말논문 (40%)

■ 발표과제

각 수강생은 13개의 세션 중 1개를 맡아, 필수 문헌을 중심으로 하되 자신이 중요하다고 생각하는 참고 문헌의 내용을 포함하여 핵심 주장과 논변 및 이에 대한 유력한 반론을 간략하고 명료하게 요약·정리하고, 그 논의에 대한 자신의 견해를 비판적이고 설득력 있게 제시하는 방식으로 발표한다. 발표문을 발표 전주 일요일 자정까지 eTL 강의 게시판에 업로드한다. 첫 주(9/5)에 누가 언제 발표할지 정한다.

■ 논평문

각 수강생은 13개의 세션 중 3개를 골라, 필수⋅참고 문헌의 논변에 대한 비판, 관련하여 제기되는 질문 등 자유롭게 내용을 선정하여 A4 용지 1쪽 정도의 짧은 논평문을 작성한다. 논평문은 수업 전일인 월요일 자정까지 eTL 강의 게시판에 업로드한다.

■ 수업참여

수업은 수강생 발표 후, 담당교수가 발표 내용을 보충하여 설명하면서 제출된 논평문 등을 기초로 철학적으로 생각해 볼 문제들을 제시하면, 이에 대해 함께 토론하는 방식으로 진행된다. 따라서 모든 수강생은 발표문이나 논평문을 작성하지 않았더라도 필수 문헌을 자세히 읽은 후 그에 관해 자신의 생각을 말할 준비를 하고 수업에 참여해야 한다. 참고 문헌을 읽는 것은 선택 사항이지만, 수업 중 발표⋅토론에서 논의될 수 있고 기말논문 작성시 적절히 활용하면 유익할 것이다.

■ 기말논문

수강생이 스스로 수업 중 다룬 내용과 관련된 주제를 선정하는바, 논문을 작성하기 전 담당 교수와 면담을 통해 주제를 상의할 것을 권장한다. 20,000-30,000자 내외(공백 포함) 분량으로, 12월 26일(화) 자정까지 담당교수의 이메일로 제출해야 한다. 보고서에서 표절이 발견될 경우에는 본 과목 전체 성적을 F로 처리하고 학칙에 따라 처벌한다. 제출된 논문은 간단한 논평을 덧붙여 수강생들에게 반환한다.
