- 경험 과학과 관련된 실재론은 소극적인 논증(negative argument)과 적극적인 논증(positive argument)에 의존함.

- 소극적인 논증: 다양한 환원적 또는 조작주의 철학들이 성공적이지 않았음

- 적극적인 논증: 과학의 성공을 기적으로 만들지 않는 유일한 철학적 입장은 실재론

- 과학적 실재론의 입장

• 성숙한(mature) 과학 이론의 용어들은 일반적으로 지시함.
